All-levels wheel class building skills in throwing, trimming, surface design, glazing, and form.
Service Description
Friday mornings (10am–12:30pm) A welcoming, all-levels 6-week wheel class where beginners learn core throwing, trimming, surface design, and glazing fundamentals, while returning students refine technique, experiment with new forms, and deepen their practice. Includes one week of hand building to support form development and combine techniques. Class includes all fees: 25 lbs of clay, firing, and glazing Week 1: Throwing Foundations & Studio Basics * Introductions, studio policies, tour, and clay overview. * Demonstration: centering, opening, lifting walls. * Beginners focus on cylinders; returning students refine forms or explore variations. * Cleaning demo: why it matters & best practices. Week 2: Trimming, Shaping & Continued Throwing * Clay stages: wet/plastic, leather-hard, bone dry. * Trimming demo: centering, assessing thickness, creating a foot. * Continued throwing practice tailored to skill level. * Optional skill building: shaping, widening, or adding intention to form. Week 3: Form Refinement & Handles * Demo: refining silhouettes—tapering, necking, compressing. * Introduction to multiple handle methods: pulled, coil, slab, altered. * Attaching handles with good scoring/slipping habits. * Beginners make mugs; advanced students explore multiples or refined forms. Week 4: Hand Building & Surface Design * Basics of pinch, coil, and slab construction for all levels. * How hand-built components can complement wheel-thrown work. * Intro to surface design: underglaze, sgraffito, carving on greenware. Week 5: Final Trimming & Glaze Prep * Last trimming and surface finishing. * Glaze overview: wax resist, dipping, pouring, brushing, test tiles. * Students glaze first pieces. Week 6: Glazing Techniques & Wrap-Up * Glazing methods, application thickness, and how glaze moves in the kiln. * Glazing remaining work, troubleshooting, and final Q&A.

Cancellation Policy
Fees & class schedule: Class fees covers, 25lbs of clay, studio glazing and firing and instructed class time (as listed in specific class schedule). Additional clay may be purchased at cost + $20 firing and glazing. Classes are subject to change if minimum student quota isn't met (7 students). Class switches will only be available 1 week prior to the commencement of classes and based on the capacity of classes at time of request.Attendance: It is mandatory for all students who are new to the studio attend the first week of classes. No “make-up” classes are given but you're more than welcome to drop-in on another session if there is an opening or absence. For Adult classes, Kids must be 14-years old or older Personal belongings: Any items left behind 30-days after last class may be discarded without notice. Refund policy: Refund or Credit (minus $20 processing fee) if a request for refund is received TWO WEEKS and only two weeks before the start of a class. Credit (no refund) with less the 48 hour notice ONLY if your spot can be filled. No refunds or credits after attending 1st class. Classes missed due to failure to attend, planned absences, minor illnesses or vacations will not be credited for future classes. One-Time class registrations such as Drop-In Clay or TryDay classes are considered final ONE WEEK before start of class. Open studio hours for students: Monday- Thursday: 10AM-6PM Friday & Saturday: 10AM-9PM Sunday 10AM-7:30PM (Hours subjected to change upon five days' notice)
