Service Description
Wednesday evenings (6-8:30pm) This 6-week course is designed for students who are ready to refine their wheel-throwing skills by focusing on creating consistent sets, developing thoughtful handle forms, building lidded jars, and exploring composite throwing techniques. We will emphasize taking more time with each piece, developing intentional form, and exploring surface techniques that complement functional work. Students should have prior wheel experience and feel comfortable centering, pulling, and trimming basic forms. Week 1: Cylinders & Sets • Demonstration: throwing matching cylinders (height, diameter, shape) • Strategies for making sets: measuring, using reference forms, repetition • Discussion: what makes a “cohesive” set Week 2: Handles + Intro to Surface Design (Sgraffito) • Demonstration: pulling handles, shaping coils, and altering extruded handles • Attaching handles with consistency across a set (angles, lengths, comfort) • Intro to sgraffito on leather-hard work, planning simple surface patterning Week 3: Jars + Wax Resist • Demonstration: throwing jars and lids and talking about various types of galleries, flange fit, lid styles • How to size lids accurately and refine them for comfortable fit after firing • Wax resist basics: clean lines, blocking out areas for texture Week 4: Composite Throwing + Carving • Demonstration: composite forms, combining two or more thrown pieces • When and how to join forms: moisture levels, scoring, compressing seams • Carving techniques: line work, sculptural carving, pattern planning Week 5: Glazing Prep + 1:1 Project Review • Final cleanup: trimming, smoothing, refining bottoms and rims • Glazing strategies for sets, textured work, and multi-part pieces Week 6: Glaze Party + Potluck • Layering glazes, controlled pouring, and glazing to highlight handles/texture • Tips for glazing lids, galleries, and composite forms cleanly

Cancellation Policy
Fees & class schedule: Class fees covers, 25lbs of clay, studio glazing and firing and instructed class time (as listed in specific class schedule). Additional clay may be purchased at cost + $20 firing and glazing. Classes are subject to change if minimum student quota isn't met (7 students). Class switches will only be available 1 week prior to the commencement of classes and based on the capacity of classes at time of request.Attendance: It is mandatory for all students who are new to the studio attend the first week of classes. No “make-up” classes are given but you're more than welcome to drop-in on another session if there is an opening or absence. For Adult classes, Kids must be 14-years old or older Personal belongings: Any items left behind 30-days after last class may be discarded without notice. Refund policy: Refund or Credit (minus $20 processing fee) if a request for refund is received TWO WEEKS and only two weeks before the start of a class. Credit (no refund) with less the 48 hour notice ONLY if your spot can be filled. No refunds or credits after attending 1st class. Classes missed due to failure to attend, planned absences, minor illnesses or vacations will not be credited for future classes. One-Time class registrations such as Drop-In Clay or TryDay classes are considered final ONE WEEK before start of class. Open studio hours for students: Monday- Thursday: 10AM-6PM Friday & Saturday: 10AM-9PM Sunday 10AM-7:30PM (Hours subjected to change upon five days' notice)
