A class for experienced hand builders creating larger forms, sets, and advanced surface work.
Service Description
Monday evenings (6:30pm-9pm) A 6-week class for students comfortable with basic hand building who want to create larger forms, multi-part pieces, sets and work with more advanced surface and textural techniques. Class includes all fees including: 25lbs of clay, firing and glazing Week 1: Large Forms & Planning * Strategies for scaling up hand-built work and managing moisture. * Building in stages for stability and strong structure - no cracking or collapsing. * Begin first large project (vase, bowl, or centerpiece). Week 2: Sets & Pieces That Fit Together * Creating cohesive sets: proportion, consistency, and repetition. * Techniques for building multi-component pieces: boxes/lids * Continue construction on sets or large work. Week 3: Advanced Slab & Coil Techniques * Reinforced slabs & hybrid coil-slab construction for complex shapes and more character. * Using templates and molds for precision/repeatability. * Refining seams, smoothing surfaces and structural details. Week 4: 3D Texture * Carving, stamping, sprigs, and building raised texture. * When to add vs. subtract clay on sculptural surfaces. * Apply texture to in-progress projects. Week 5: Refinement & Intro Glazing for Texture * Final shaping, and smoothing to prepare for the kiln. * Preparing textured surfaces for glaze: wax, stain, underglaze options. * First glazing opportunity for completed pieces. Week 6: Glazing Larger & Textured Work * Glazing strategies for big pieces and textured surfaces. * Breaking, pooling, layering, and selective application. * Wrap-up and finishing all remaining work.

Cancellation Policy
Fees & class schedule: Class fees covers, 25lbs of clay, studio glazing and firing and instructed class time (as listed in specific class schedule). Additional clay may be purchased at cost + $20 firing and glazing. Classes are subject to change if minimum student quota isn't met (7 students). Class switches will only be available 1 week prior to the commencement of classes and based on the capacity of classes at time of request.Attendance: It is mandatory for all students who are new to the studio attend the first week of classes. No “make-up” classes are given but you're more than welcome to drop-in on another session if there is an opening or absence. For Adult classes, Kids must be 14-years old or older Personal belongings: Any items left behind 30-days after last class may be discarded without notice. Refund policy: Refund or Credit (minus $20 processing fee) if a request for refund is received TWO WEEKS and only two weeks before the start of a class. Credit (no refund) with less the 48 hour notice ONLY if your spot can be filled. No refunds or credits after attending 1st class. Classes missed due to failure to attend, planned absences, minor illnesses or vacations will not be credited for future classes. One-Time class registrations such as Drop-In Clay or TryDay classes are considered final ONE WEEK before start of class. Open studio hours for students: Monday- Thursday: 10AM-6PM Friday & Saturday: 10AM-9PM Sunday 10AM-7:30PM (Hours subjected to change upon five days' notice)
